texture on surface darkened (3ds max & vray)

greetings -

 

this roadway was created using the sweep modifier with a road section shape (spline.)

 

from the view overhead - everything appears fine. however - in the camera view - the curb on the right and traveling on thru towards the end of the road - is very dark?

 

it appears this way in the camera view and the render.

 

i applied the textures to the shape as section id(s) - fyi.

 

clearly it's a vray issue that i will have to resolve.

 

it's appears quite fine in perspective mode - but the vraycamera shares a different story!

Did you make the right side of the section spline by mirroring? Sometimes the faces of extruded splines get flipped when mirrored. To check, apply EditPoly mod to the sweep object and flip the faces. I'm curious if it renders dark with normal max camera.

 

Also, sweep has 'smooth section' and 'smooth path' options. I've had funky renderings with 'smooth path' turned on, so I always turn that off.
