miroslavhundak
My usual work is CG for TV commercials and other related stuff. I never liked it, but there was always plenty of work and it payed well. This has changed a lot since 2009, mostly for the worse. The work I do like is visualizations, even when it doesn't pay well. Ideally I would partner up with foreign design studios. For the time being that's all but impossible, as most require relocation and full-time employment. There are several local architecture studios, some of which still survive by working for both local and foreign clients. I need advice on how to approach them as potential new clients. Is it at all realistically possible for me to do visualizations if I have no design/architecture qualifications? I'd appreciate if anyone can share their experience and/or views on this matter. Thanks.
notamondayfan
Does a design / architecture qualification help, yes. Is it critical, no. So long as you can demonstrate you can read and understand drawings, then your client should be happy. I've never had a client say "are you architecturally trained?". Bki
I do have the similar problem that you have, the only difference is I worked as a visualizer from the beginning. I have pretty hard times finding new clients. Have sent tons of emails, but people do not even answer to them, even if the answer is negative. As for the qualifications, I agree with Dean, if you can read the drawings, you're good to go!
Stan Zaslavsky
Hi Miroslav, I think you should try to bring in your specialist experience into what you can offer for the arch vis clients looking to do what you already know. The market in Australia for animations/tv commercials for projects is pretty small - mostly the clients want stills - so if you can demonstrate a great portfolio and educate your prospective clients on why your work is going to get them better results - they'll give you a try. Good luck,
