anthonymiller
okay guys you've helped me a lot so far and i think this is my final question. in sketchup when i wand to draw lets say and arched window i use the drawing (spline) tools, using the arch tool and line tool. in max when i want to do the same thing i use connect/slice plane to make the window however when it comes to the arch i get stuck. i go to the line tools in max however i'm not able to draw on the surface in the same way as sketchup. whats the correct way of doing this? are there any plugins that allow direct drawing on an editable ploy like in sketchup? thanks for the help
Jose Negrete
draw a grid helper object on the angled surface using autogrid. once created, with it still selected - right click and activate it. click on arc tool, change the reference coord system to grid *pulldown menu to the right of the scale tool icon. Jose Negrete
autogrid, should also work
anthonymiller
that seems soooo complex though (newbie here ) compared to just drawing on like in sketchup, is there really no other way of doing this?
Jose Negrete
try drawing arc/circle with autogrid enabled. that should align to surfaces as you draw *autogrid is a toggle at the top of the "object type" selection area, where you pick line, or arc, or circle. that will make your objects stick to surfaces. i think you can ignore my first suggested method Edited September 13, 2013 by acad-gatsu
anthonymiller
awesome all drawn now how do i merge the spline to the ploy so im able to extrude it ?
Jose Negrete
screenshot? not sure if you have a wall and are trying to create the window opening?
Nicolai Bongard
If your spline shape is supposed to make a hole in the wall, just add an extrude modifier or convert to poly then extrude, make sure it goes through the wall, then use boolean to make the hole.
