fadi3d
Hi there, I installed 3d Max 2014 and somehow my 3d max files show the adobe Pdf thumbnail instead of 3d max. I can open the file and save it but I can't change the association. I right click a file and go to properties, change, choose file and select max from the desktop but it doesn't change and it's driving me crazy so please if anyone knows a fix help me I scanned the internet and found nothing. thanks a lot. Nicolai Bongard
Right click your file, "Open in" or whatever that option is called in the english version of windows, then select 3ds max 2014 (if it is not in the programs that pop up you have to browse for the exe) and check the box that says something like "Allways use this program". That should do the trick.

Nicolai Bongard
Ah, i checked it out now, you get to the excact same menu no matter how you do it. I am sorry, but then i do not know how to help. Perhaps try to google and see if you can adjust some settings in the adobe program to no longer associate the max files with it. Good luck! Karl Larsen
I've seen this before but can't remember where... Control Panel / Default Programs / Associate a file? (chose a file extension then the program you want to associate it with). Worth a try to see if maybe that will reset the icon? If that doesn't do it you could try this: http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/how-to-rebuild-the-icon-cache-in-windows-vista/ And, if that doesn't work you might read this, but try it at your own risk! If you do, MAKE A BACKUP FIRST! http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/change-file-type-icon-windows-7-vista/ Edited September 20, 2013 by karlar
alexzakharov
Try to check max-file associations in Windows register. Run regedit from Windows (Win+R on keyboard and type "regedit"). Find section HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\3dsmax\Shell\Open\Command and check parameter. It must contain correct path to the 3dsmax.exe. For example, in my sistem it is "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2012\\3dsmax.exe" "%1".
