doncokara
Hello everyone! My name is Don and i'm into architectural visualization since 2011. I work with 3ds Max, V-ray and Photoshop but i have some basic knowledge of AutoCAD, Sketchup and Vue. In these 2 years i manage to get to the point where i'm asking myself, if i'm ready for a work. Are my works or skills good enough to start working as a freelancer or to join a company for a full time job? I know this my passion, i'm a fast learner and i really like doing this, but i'm not sure at this point if i'm ready. I have some personal works on this site http://www.cgarchitect.com/members/view/doncokara and if you could give me your most critical/constructive opinion about my work so i could make some changes or improvements. My next question is how to start? What is the best and efficient way to start working a architectural visualizer or designer? Is it better to start as a freelancer or to join a company for a full time job? Thank you, Don
Devin Johnston
Don your work is good I don't see why you couldn't be an asset to any firm. I can't say whether you're ready or not that's a decision you have to make but it can't hurt to start looking for a job. Start calling firms and see if they will let you sit down for an interview, make sure you have all your best work in a nice portfolio you can leave with them. You could also go the freelancer rout but it's much harder, you really have to work to get a consistent client base and even then you're not guaranteed work. It's up to you but I think the best place to learn is in a firm.

notamondayfan
Hello everyone! My next question is how to start? What is the best and efficient way to start working a architectural visualizer or designer? Is it better to start as a freelancer or to join a company for a full time job? As a freelancer you'd be expected to hit the ground running on what ever project you work on, so it's not really a good place to start. A full time position in-house will give you a good progression and you'll learn a whole lot more. I think your work is very good, good luck with the job hunt! doncokara
Thank you all for your replies. I will try to get in contact with arch/viz firms and see if someone needs my assistance. I think this is the best way to start as a architectural visualizer and i'm sure i will get a lot experiences in arch visualizaton. I'm aware the start won't be easy, but it's a lot easier if you love what you do and i just enjoy doing this. Let the job hunt begin
RyderSK
You're more than good enough to do all. It's odd people wait for some exact moment when they feel they're ready, when the natural choice should just be to start ! At any moment. That way, you don't miss any trains.. I am pretty sure you can start solo as well as soon as you got any client, it takes more personal responsibility (which is more stressful), but on other hand there are less expectations (if you f*** up, nothing happens, you just move on, it's not like your clients will follow you) and offers great deal of personal freedom, concerning work choice, free time, etc. You can also start with company then move on, but I find people rarely do this, as they become slightly complacement, or too confortable in their position, or afraid to take the leap of faith. But anyway, there is nothing to wait for, just consider yourself a professional and that's it.
doncokara
Thank you Juraj for your comment and guides how to start. I think the best and most efficient way for me is to start looking for firms and start there.
