yourfather
Hi you guys. First I'd like to say that I'm asking another question her on the boards because its the best place to talk with other 3D artists and get answers that are relevant. Here's yet another question: If a client wants a specific environment rendered (for instance an art museum), how can a 3D artist know the type of lights he/she should use and how many lumens per square foot? I found some info saying 40 lumens per square foot is a good start. But I'm wondering if there's a resource to determine the TYPE of lights used for specific environments. Thanks a million! Nicolai Bongard
I think the light types that should be used is whatever makes the image look good, unless your client wants something specific, and if so they will tell you what they want and you can either google the specs of that specific light or your client will supply you with it. When rendering private houses usually the lightbulbs can be pretty much whatever, but for bigger projects usually there is someone who has the job of designing the lights, so that person will usually have the info you are looking for for that specific project. yourfather
Nicolai, Thank you for your reply. It really helps getting other 3D artists opinion and to hear how they tackle certain tasks. Ismael, What an incredible source of information. I already read through the first and learned that Metal Halide and LED (though expensive) are favored for retail spaces. Thanks for taking the time.
