stayinwonderland
I've always had laptops and so never bought a flat monitor. As such I don't know what I'm looking for. Budget is around £100. Sorry, I know there's a similar thread to this that's just been started but my budget is about half that :/ My only lead is this one: aoc-e2343f It doesn't have to be perfect - I'm currently using a 17" dell laptop! So as long as it's as good as that screen (dell XPS) but bigger, I'm happy. Mainly want it to be crisp. Don't care about calibration at this point as very little of my work is ever printed. The Dell sales dude tried to flog me a glossy screen, but I hear these aren't great for graphics as you want as little glare as poss, right? He wasn't having that. Any help would be much appreciated! Dimitris Tolios
The smaller the screen with a given pixel count, the smaller the pixels will be = will appear sharper. i.e. a 22" 1080p like the Asus you've posted will appear far sharper than a 27" 1080p. In this price range, most monitors will be using "ok" panels at best. As long as you will have LED backlit, at least there should be ok uniformity etc. If you reference point is a basic XPS monitor (not the high end ips/matte upgrades) you won't be disappointed. Yes, I prefer matte screens myself for reduced reflections etc, but many dislike them. I don't know if matte desktop screens are that popular in this price range...glossy covers look sharper / brighter and that is what sells to consumers. stayinwonderland
Thanks for that bit of info, useful to know! For my viewing distance I'd be better of sticking to no more than 21/22 inches.
notamondayfan
For a good budget monitor, I'd stick with Dell. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listing/B003R7K33C/ref=dp_olp_used?ie=UTF8&condition=used these are cheap, but there are deals to be had! Plus I like the height adjustable stand that Dell offers on a lot of monitors. Dean
