Max Freezing at CAD Linework Import Process

Working with MAX 2013, I have continuously imported CAD drawings forever. However, my MAX software freezes when I import any CAD file, even as small as crown molding line drawing.

 

Can you please assist me with this 'bug'? This is now happening all of a sudden and don't know how to handle this. I have reinstalled the software twice and no luck. I have not added any hardware or software since this has been occurring.

1. make sure your dwg is close to 0,0,0 coordinates

2. turn off any vertex welding options when you import and make sure to skip hatching and points etc.
