Terri Brown
Hi guys, Please can you give me some suggestions on the best way to create the rock wall in this image? I need to create the actual geometry as I have close-up views, and am open to plugins etc. I'm using 3DS Max 2011 and VRay 2. I have Itoo Forest Pro, but not much else in terms of plugins (for now). Greatly appreciated, Terri
notamondayfan
Probably a mix of Forest Pro, Rock Generator, and several materials should give good results. If you're after quick results, you could try the "Generate Topology" inside Max for creating rock like patterns, then modifying them?
Scott Schroeder
You can use a good texture map with multiple levels of displacement and turbosmooths, then covert that to a vray proxy to ease up on the poly count. This is part of a great multi-video series. With a good texture map and some extra work in max/photoshop you don't need the zbrush step and you also don't need the UDK steps:
