Perforated Facades

Hello!

I am doing some research on perforated metal facades.

So two questions come up to my mind.

1. Does somebody know how to generate perforation designs like the attached ones?

Is there a generator?

2. How do I translate such a pattern to my cladding. Sometimes it´s enough to map the bitmap and cut the holes by alpha channel.

But sometimes I need a thickness of material and would like to model the cutouts.

What workflow would you suggest?
