timurkhan
Hi guys, I recently started learing 3DS Max for my job. Our company sometimes get some rendering jobs for clients. Mostly I have to render out photorealistic interiors so objects (sofas) can be placed into it. My previous colleague bought a lot of interiors and object online. Now that he's gone this render jobs are given to me, the video guy... Mostly I just have to adjust the interior, the camera and setup VRay to render the scenes. Quite 'simple' I already did a few jobs and the clients were happy (enough). But recently our servers got updated and I think 3DS Max went bananas because of that. I could open some project (because of the paths) and now I can't even render scenes. This is a big problem because a client is already waiting 2 weeks for a render. Since I don't have enough technical background in 3D I was wondering if you guys could help me. I still can't open a few projects but the one I was able to open doesn't finish the render. It starts but after a minute it gives me a Unhandled exception error: compiling geometry. How can I fix this? Reïnstall 3DS Max or is this a project or path error? Hopefully you can help me fix this issue. Thanks! I've attached a log (just the last part because it was very long). vincentg87
sometimes when something weird happens to my max file, clearing the notetracks solves the problem. it's a long run but worth the try. Download and run the script here (at your own risk! save a backup of your file before trying) the last time my company updated our server, the issue I faced was that all my material bitmaps had to be linked through the unc path, I couldn't even launch my max file unless it's through the unc path. to further explain. I used to be able to launch my file from A:\Project1\filename.max now I have to launch it through \\TS-HTGLBC5\share\Project1\filename.max my point is that maybe the links are messed up? are there any missing maps when you render? timurkhan
Hi Vincent, thanks for the fast reply. I will try it out... No other option! The link you send me contains 8 .ms files. Which one do I have to download? T.
vincentg87
The one I've been using is cleaner5.ms but you should try the latest one if it's not compatible with your 3ds max
timurkhan
I ran the latest script (MAXScript > Run script > cleaner8.ms). I didn't really see anything happen but maybe this is normal. Still the same exception when rendering. The problem isn't solved... Any suggestions?
unrinoceronte
sometimes when something weird happens to my max file, clearing the notetracks solves the problem. Hi Vincent, hope you dont mind me asking, but waht are the NOTETRACKS in max?
vincentg87
I'm not really sure what they are, I think they have something to do with animation in 3ds max. What I do know is that sometimes when you're working with 3ds max, especially if you imported/ merged some downloaded models, the models may contain notetracks, and it will be added together in the file you're working on. The main issue I get when there are notetracks is that the saving time takes very long, together with an increased file size. Which is why once in a while I would run the cleaner script to check if there are any notetracks in the file, and clean it. I'm still not very clear of it's function in a working file, that's why I always recommend that you save a backup before clearing the notetracks.
