Setting up first render node

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am building my first render node and would appreciate some suggestions. My current workstation is an i5 2500k and I am finishing building an i7 3770k. I was thinking on leaving the i5 as the workstation and the i7 as the render node.

My idea is to use vray distributed rendering.

I would also like to sumbit works to the node, while I keep working on the workstation. What would be the best way to do this, backburner?

The backburner will do the job, yes.

If you are asking for suggestions for which one to use as your workstation, I'd say the new i7. That's because when you are using DR, eighter for test renders or production renders, you would most likely want to check emails, start deep diving into your next project, read news, or and just stream music. - While your node will be unaffected. I've learned that one's own psyche is most important.

If you are outsourcing to your node through backburner, you would also want the best computer as workstation. I presume you would like to start on your next project while the previous one is rendering. And setting up everything will obviously need more power. Just to get things done. The rendering is of course affected by the cpu, but all in all, I think the productivity loss will be greater if you choose the i5 as workstation just to boost the rendering a small amount.

Good luck with choosing :)
