V-Ray IES shadows control

Hi, is it possible to get soft shadows from v-ray ies lights, or is that something that depends on the ies file, and how? I always get super sharp shadows with them. I don't mean the light shape cast on a wall but actual shadows that objects cast on floor, walls, etc.

Yes, you can override the light shape within the VrayIES settings. Set the width/length or diameter to control the shadow softness. Obviously bigger area = softer shadows.

I can't find where I would be able to adjust the size in the vrayies settings, I can only see controls for rotation, cutoff, shadow bias, etc. I'm using max 2012 and vray 2.3.

I can control the size in the photometric ies light settings but when I use those lights, render times are twice as long.
