branskyj
Hi all, just finished watching the VRay 3 webinar and one of the things which bugs me is the mentioned EMBREE functionality of VRay 3. The speaker said EMBREE was a set of instructions typical for recent Intel CPUs but I struggle to find any information online as to which CPUs support EMBREE. Is that supposed to be a hardware part of a CPU or is it a software which needs to be installed? My CPU is Intel 3930K and was wondering if it is compatible with EMBREE. Render speed seems to benefit greatly from using it. Cheers guys and have a good week.
RyderSK
If I am not mistaken, the support starts with core2xx so pretty much all i3/i5/i7 through all generations are supported. It's between 20-30 perc. performance difference, depending on renderer. I use it with Corona which is build upon it, and it's nice :- )
branskyj
That's great news then. Any idea if the image quality between with and without EMBREE is the same or does it come at a price? Thanks a lot, Turaj.
RyderSK
It's set of raytracing kernels, there should be no visual difference.

Ciro Sannino
Hi Julian, on my side I can confirm 10% render time saved in average with embree. In general there's no differences about the output unless you use particular technique that requires to disable "visible to camera" in object properties: http://screencast.com/t/6gUyJjZhL (for example for camera projection applications) Just in this case embree produce horrible artfacts... But 99,9% of cases the output is the same, just the time decrease what a great solution
branskyj
Hi Ciro, thanks a lot for the information. 10% speed increase is still good news. Especially when distributing to other PC too. I am glad you are already enjoying VRay 3.0. We also got it at work ( the Beta at least) I just can't wait for my work PC to receive it as well Happy rendering, mate.
