muhamedthufail
Hi all , Am working on a big project [ considering my experience ] . And am having trouble with managing scene assets like buildings , vegetation etc. I have like 5 buildings each with 3 million polygons in it. To be merged into an another scene where i will be doing all the vegetation in forest pack. But its too much load for a single file. And viewport performance is very poor . Whats the best way to work in cases like this ? i've tried using 'Display As Box' but its not of much use. Please help ... am a kind of stuck now .. Am using 3DsMAX 2013 with Vray 2.4 ... stuartkemp
Try xref each individual building and then turn them all off except for the one in the area you are working in. That should speed things up. Also with forest pack try changing the display mode. I don't know why but point cloud kills my viewport performance, so I tend to use display as pyramid or plane. muhamedthufail
Thank you .. Stuart , things are much better now. But how can i hide/show Xref's ? there's no use in hiding the dummy and you cant select it either. Should i work with layers? isolation mode is very helpful sometimes .. stuartkemp
In the xref dialog there are options which allow you to enable/disable, show/hide, display as box etc. Is that what you are looking for? Use whatever work flow you are comfortable with, just as long as your file is organised and optimised your life will be a lot easier, not just in viewport performance but rendering too. What graphics card and display driver are you using? Sent from my C5503 using Tapatalk
muhamedthufail
Thank you very much .. Yes exactly what i was looking for. This is the first time am using Xref for my scene after 3 years of doing 3dViz .. :/ Am using Quadro 2000 .. With the driver version 320.86 It doesn't have much impact on my rendering speed though .. I tried the same with Octane render which was like 40X faster ... i think its because Octane is a GPU renderer
