CGarchitect Server Upgrade

Not completely 3D related, but thought some might be interested in the spec of the new server running this site. We were starting to push the old server past its limits so we had to upgrade.

Last night we upgraded the main CGarchitect server managing our four virtual machines to a DELL PowerEdge R720 dual socket Hexacore Intel Xeon CPU E5-2640 @ 2.50GHz. We also added more RAM and drives. We now have 64GB of RAM and 8 - 600GB SAS 15K RPM in a RAID 10 configuration.

Next year I plan on doing some site refreshes and optimizations to increase site speed, but hopefully this new server will be a bit more reliable and be a bit speedier than the last. Curious to know if anyone notices a difference. The majority of the difference will be noticed once we optimize.

And now for the mind boggling part. To keep this server online with all of the other infrastructure required, costs us almost $40,000 a year! Ouch!
