Guest nisseeriksson
Hi there, I'm a beginner in 3Ds Max 2014 and uses V-ray 2.40. When I import my Sketchup model as a .3ds.file to 3Ds Max and assign a V-ray material to it just gets coloured and somewhat transparent. When I create my own geometry in the same scene with 3ds Tools the geometry with the same V-ray material appears to render ok. The only problem is when I use a paving material the texture for it gets stretched over the area and not tiled. I tried to change settings for real World etc but can't get it to work. And why does the Sketchup geometry seem incompatible and unable to render the V-ray properly? Greatful for any advice, sorry for my bad english Edited November 28, 2013 by nisseeriksson
shauncarollo
Look into UVW mapping. You apply a UVW map modifier to the object(s) and adjust the tiling in the modify panel.
andymaw
I'm no expert but I had to transfer from sketchup to max recently. I needed to weld all of the vertices to get a decent render. You may also have to flip the normals too if it looks like faces are missing.
numerobis
Why 3ds?!? Max can import skp files directly with all materials and correct uv-coordinates.
salvador
Indeed, just make sure you save your SKP to version 8 if you are using Max 2013. When you import via 3ds, you get Editable Meshes with broken vertices that you have to weld manually for every object. Importing SKP directly doesn't do this.
