hkahk
Hi all, I want to switch to DR (distributed rendering) and was wondering what kind of storage I need for a smooth workflow. Is it enough to work on a NAS System or do I need a server. I want to store alll textures on that external storage to be accessible for all machines. Any suggestions? What do you guys use? Thanks! Chris MacDonald
A NAS server will do just fine and should be much cheaper, all you need is something that is visible to all computers.
hkahk
Hi Chris, thanks for your reply. Ok I thought you might need an as fast as possible solution to load all the textures!
Scott Schroeder
Most new NAS drives are fairly quick. The one thing to watch out for, I had an older Buffalo NAS that worked perfectly but was prone to overheating if used on a consistent rendering basis. paneli
I also want to buy a NAS for DR and I can't decide between Synology and QNAP. What I need the most is speed, RAID 10 setup and backup to an external drive. Both can do, but what would you guys recommend? I also examined the option of setting up a LSI RAID controller and installing FreeNAS but it's very hard to decide for me.
