Little help with Vertex Paint/alpha map to photoshop.

Hi people. I'm about to map a terrain model im working on. (From Civil 3d to 3ds Max)

 

My question is; How can i render out the whole landscape from top down and get it into photoshop to create the mask for the blend materials? And keep the right size of the map back into 3ds Max?

 

I guess its more a question about the best workflow...
