Matching film gate and focal length from real-world camera (v-ray)

I often get photos from clients taken on all sorts of point n clicks/phones/etc

Am wondering what the proper workflow is to match real-world camera settings to V-ray camera settings.

eg I have an image from a Samsung Galaxy Note II, the only info provided in the meta-data is that is has a 4mm focal length. How does 35mm equivalent, crop factor, all fit into this?

Basically, what are the calculations I'd need to do to put the correct figures into V-ray's camera "film gate" and "focal length" settings?

You need to find the sensor size for the note 2 and input that as the film gate, then the 4mm focal length will look correct.

[edit] From the info I found doing a quick search, the sensor size on it is 1/3", which is ~8.47mm. Try inputting that as the film gate, then setting the focal length to 4mm. It is worth noting that some of the literature I saw quoted it at having a 3.7mm focal length - best to try both to see which works best.
