ronniev
Hi everyone! i am glad to be here; hope you can help me with my problem. I am new in 3dmax. I try to make a decorative wall panel, well..i have to bridge two polygons in the panel, when i do this..there appears a problem: overlapping segments, that i can't connect in no way..it is a trouble because after TurboSmooth..it's not looking good. I took some cuptures , i have the same problem modeling another object with edit poly..on turbosmooth mode appears ruptures,,, i tried to weld vertices, edges..add other vertices, conections..but nothing works. I hope you understand my problem and you could give me some reasons how to solve this. Thank you. Edited December 8, 2013 by ronniev
Francisco Penaloza
It is a little hard to understand from those screen shot, but You better off, goggling polygon modeling tutorials, the net is full of them, with a few of them you'll get an idea of a correct workflow. My only guess can be I see to many simple long areas, if you are using turbosmotth you need more subdivisions in your mesh first, also in every corner that you want to keep sharp you need to ad extra edges lines, if not turbo smooth will round out of control that hard edge. google polygon modeling on 3DsMax and you'll find your answers
numerobis
i think you have to remove the inner polygons and produce a clean geometry using only quads. I'm not sure what happened to the geometry in the last picture, but it looks completely messed up... Some hints how subdivision modeling in max works: Edited December 9, 2013 by numerobis
ronniev
it looks messed up, because it is not finished..i can't continue because of that darker rupture : there are overlapping edges but they are not connected, i can't unify them, for this it looks so in turbosmooth....not in all parts of my geometry is such a problem..i showed only one for you to make idea of what is... thank you for the answer if it is important,i'll show some of more part of my geometry to understand better, i'm trying to do some of organic-futuristic stuff Edited December 9, 2013 by ronniev
cg_Butler
I think the problem is that some of your edges stop. These end vertices need to be connected to other vertices so max knows how to do the turbosmooth correctly. Use a quick slice with 3D snaps turned on to connect the ones the i have circled, and any other that exist, with some others and see if that helps. Ideally you need to keep quad faces and not triangular though so be sensible! https://www.dropbox.com/s/baf4guxcs70p97u/attachment%202.png[/img]"]
numerobis
once again, you're limited to quads if you want to produce clean sub-d's... Like that:
ronniev
in the image you can see that there are overlapping edges, i can't connect in that place other edges..and if i insert vertex there..it can't be even weld..quickslice also not help...that place cause rupture...(i moved one vertex to see that there is another edge with no other vertex) ; don't know what to do
numerobis
you can use the cut tool to add another vertical edge and then weld the two vertices. Just get rid of this small polygon.
ronniev
oh..this also don't work..i tried many times, doing all i can....this problem appears when i bridge edges or polygons...don't know how to avoid it
ronniev
hey..i want to share with y my joy and peace...that i solved my problem....i deleted unwanted edges and make cap of the holes..so all it's ok. Was fine to find this site..thank you for the answers
