How to create a Windows 8 bootable USB on a Mac (to be used on a PC)?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

So I finally moved from mac to PC and all the parts for my new workstation has arrived.

But theres one thing im a little unsure about. Tomorrow im going to buy a copy of Windows 8 Pro but i didn't buy any optical drive. Still, I got my MB Pro and I tought maybe I can create a bootable usb from the Windows DVD on my Mac and then boot from that on my new workstation? I haven't found any clear solution on doing this and was hoping someone here could give me a hint, link or help.

Kindly

Frederik

I think its possible to run the downloaded Windows image through VMware Fusion and install Windows 7 USB/DVD download tool on it to create the bootable media for your workstation.

Then its easy as 1, 2, 3.

Or you can just get a USB Optical Drive.

It a great thing to have laying around.

You said Windows 8 bootable USB makes me think "Windows to go"

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/enterprise/products-and-technologies/devices/windowstogo.aspx

Maybe you can try this portable windows 8, but you mentioned Windows 8 Pro? Are you sure to buy this edition?

"Windows to go "only Enterprise Edition has.

Don't worry, I google again and found this

http://www.disk-partition.com/features/windows-to-go-creator.html

It is said aomei partition assistant can create a windows to go no matter your edition is Enterprise or not.

Your computer is Mac, I don't know too much about it, If only you could made a virtual machine run windows on it. It'll be all right.
