Devin Johnston
I have a designer who wants me to produce 27 different renderings of the same room! What she wants is to be able to show every possible combination of wall, floor, and counter top material. This is not something that I can do in Photoshop so I have to get it done with Max. What I'm looking for is some kind of plug-in or max script that would automatically replace designated geometry with predefined materials, and then render out that scene. I know that this more than likely doesn’t exist but I though it would be worth asking. Any ideas will be gladly accepted.
opus13
the only thing i can think of is to create a multi sub material, duplicate it, edit each instance, make sure that you have independent ID's for each object, then go through the laborious process of reassign>render for each iteration. maybe a maxscript guru could help more. pixelperfectg
I personally haven't used this plugin, but you may want to have a look: http://www.drapefx.com/ Also, if you have access to Combustion, you can render out one .rpf file and then change the textures in Combustion. David Knourek
You mite also be able to create an animated texture with a new map for every frame... Just a thought, -dave

ChrisE
you could have a look at render pass manager http://www.rpmanager.com so once you apply the materialed all the materials any re-rendering can be done with a click of a button
nisus
If you use colored maps or bitmaps, use an IFL in every slot... this way you should only render from frame 0 - 26 rgds nisus
