aflack
Been searching through the help file but can't seem to find any reference to it! Is there any way to render out a hidden line of your model or even just a wireframe? Thanks for your help!
Jim Mann
Max own ink 'n' paint material should do it, assuming of course that you are using Max 5 or higher. I don't use that one myself as I prefer finaltoon but you may not want to spend on an extra plug-in. Other plug-ins that would do what you are asking are Brazil and Swift 3D. You used to be able to get a demo of Swift3d. It was limited in either size or output format, but it was very easy to learn.
Crazy Homeless Guy
i have used max ink 'n paint with decent results, but it does not generate a vector hiddenline file if that is what you are looking for. i amnot sure if there is a way to do that out of max. abicalho
Another alternative is to load the mental ray hidden line preset that ships with 3dsmax 6 or 7. Alexander
Vince Paske
Another way to produce a wire frame is to use the Lattice modifier on your object. I'll make a copy of the object, so it occupies the same space, apply the lattice modifier to one of the objects and assign contrasting material's. MasterDawZ
Here's a way to make a good hidden line material: 1) create a blend material in the material window 2) make your first material an Ink 'n Paint a. make sure the color is a shade of gray (not too dark) b. make ink width min .05 and max 2 (or whatever works for you) 3) make your second material standard a. choose Blinn and check wire and face map b. make the diffuse color black 4) back in the blend box, make sure the first material is checked [interactive] 5) make the mix amount about 40 (may vary for what you want) 6) make sure your background is white or very light gray (works best) This should work pretty well. Hopefully i didn't mess up the instructions but this will give you a semi-transparent wire frame/ hidden line material that looks good when rendered.
