philvanderloo
Can someone help me to understand why the image generated from "Duplicate to MAX frame buffer" is so much darker than my rendered image. And when I save the rendered image as a .jpg it saves quite a bit darker like the MAX frame buffer image. I notice that when I switch the rendered image to display colors in srgb space it also looks like the darker version. Short question is- why are my saved images so much darker than the rendered image? Thank You
hockley91
Your gamma settings may not be the same. I can't access 3DS Max at this time (network license...rrrrrr) but I think maybe the Vray buffer or camera may have a separate gamma setting? Isn't the default 2.2? Devin Johnston
Adam's right you have different gamma settings affecting each frame buffer and when you save your image the gamma needs be adjusted.

garfienaznaz
Hi Phil, It depends on gamma adjustments. First you need to check your gamma (it has to be 2.2) ---> preferences--->gamma and lut--> in put bitmap 2.2,, out put bitmap 1.0... and it has to be the same with your render settings----> vray color mapping--->gamma 2.2. If you use 3dsmax 2014 , you have to watch this video, because I don't know why 3ds Max 2014 didn't get this adjusts.
salvador
@Phil: A simple trick to do this without changing your gamma settings is to turn on the curves control on your VRay FB, click on the lower left end of the curve and set it to x=0, y= 0.64 and then right click the top right end of the curve and click "reset tangents". This will wash out your rendered image but will allow you to create a well gamma compensated copy to Max FB. The beauty of it is that you can simply turn off the curves control to get your correct gamma back. This is an approximate gamma compensation but it's really close to the real thing.
