dantrodgers
I am using the vraydisplacementmod on a wall, it works fine in some areas but looks pretty strange in others. The geometry is just a shelled plane, unwrapped and vraydisplacementmod on top. The problem only seems to happen when the brick is directly facing the camera any help would be great. see images for more info at 100% settings
christofferthulin
It would be nice to see what the displace map looks like. I'm not really sure of your problem here. Is it because the bricks seem to go in inward instead of outward? Are all normals correct?
dantrodgers
I havent got the displacement map to hand atm, but its basically just a pure black and white checker(ish) pattern, masked from the original diffuse map. I have checked the normals, and they were fine. I also checked AO and diffuse passes which also looked fine other than i slightly darker area on the AO where the black border is. Like you say, I does look like its going inwards though. Or a really shitty optical illusion
christofferthulin
Try switching to 2d mapping, see if that can narrow it down.
dantrodgers
2d mapping does seem to remove the problem in that area, but makes the rest of the map look less defined. I could just detach those faces, but it would be nice to know what the actual problem is.
