petertrayanov
Anybody with experience linking FBX files from Revit to 3D Studio Max? I`m trying to model a hybrid scene in 3D Studio Max. The main architecture model comes from Revit via the FBX linking workflow. I want to visualize the scene with Vray after adding some trees, bushes and so far so good. The problem I`m experiencing comes when reloading the updated FBX file from Revit. I`ve added some Vray Materials on the original linked geometry. When reloading the linked model it appears that some of the geometry is duplicated. That causes problems when rendering (blotches) on the duplicated geometry. When reloading i`m ticking the options "keep 3dsmax material parameters\material assignments on reload". It`s really annoying deleting all of the repeated objects. Is there any workaround of the problem? I`m using Revit Architecture 2013 - 3D Studio Max Design 2013 Edited January 20, 2014 by petertrayanov
Scott Schroeder
Are you using any sort of edit mesh modifiers on the linked geometry? These are fine, until that piece of geometry changes and the vertex count gets shuffled around, which in turn causes that edit mesh (or poly) modifier to explode. If not, then you need to find out who is creating your FBX file as it sounds like a problem with duplicate geometry coming from Revit. 2013 can link directly to a Revit file as well, so you could just cut out the whole FBX extra step. Can you post a screencap?
petertrayanov
Hi Scott. Thanks for the answer. Unfortunately I`m the author of the revit model and the exported FBX files, and there aren`t any duplicated objects on revit level. I`m rendering some interiors and exteriors and the project is still on run - it changes. Linking the whole revit model will be very difficult.. I`ve decided to "cut" the model into pieces. The model for the exterior is missing the furniture... etc, and the interior models are limited to the rendered space. I`m using the clipping mask tool in revit. Generating several FBX files is more suitable than keeping tree or four versions of the revit model. The most annoying think is that problem is inconsistent - the first time virtually the whole model was duplicated, after that - some objects. The duplicated objects are not part of the linked model, they are missing the > option, but they can`t be deleted unless they are converted to editable poly or detaching the linked model. I am suspecting that the problem comes from the Vray material assignments or something like that. In order to render the scene with the vray render engine I`ve assigned on all of the geometry a base gray Vray Material, adding vray lighting sources etc. I`m using only UVW Modifiers on the linked geometry so i suspect that it`s not a problem. I`m sending some screenshots of the problem.
