Chad Warner
I've been using the new populate plugin for a little while now, and I like it. The problem I have is with the "idling" people looking like zombies or puppets, with weird angles in the bodies and strange postures. Am I the only one having this problem? thanks! Nicolai Bongard
I assume you are using them for single/still pictures? The amount of detail and the animations/deformations are not so good on the populate people, so i tend to only use it for people far away. I think they had animation in mind when they made it, and when you play the animations it usually doesnt look half bad, allthough they are a bit "stiff". The only "fix" i have for you is to change the frame to one where the pose they have does no longer look silly, but then usually there is another oner one that looks silly instead... Chad Warner
No, I'm using it for animations. It works well to fill in the backgrounds with people.
Ernest Burden III
I'm using it for animations... Could you post an example? I'm curious to see this tool in use.
Chad Warner
Could you post an example? I'm curious to see this tool in use. Sure...http://vimeo.com/71601306 all of the people on the exterior are the populate people. Stupid easy to use, other than the weird poses of the idlers, and there's no way to "loop" the walking people, so you have to be careful where the walking people's paths start and end, because they'll pop on and off. Ernest Burden III
no way to "loop" the walking people... Man, that was fun! Well, someone managed to loop The Black Keys, or is there an instrumental version of that song? The people are all on the phone, but they aren't holding phones. The walking people are highly motivated. And that woman in the red sweater towards the end is saying "so have you found the condoms yet?" Biggest crit -- the sign with the logo could have been much more dimensional, displaced, it reads too flat. It comes back at the end and reminds me of it's flatness. Otherwise, kinda fun. I'm pretty sure the Black Keys song was an "homage." The client provided it for us to use. Thanks for the feedback!
Scott Dombrowski
Nice job on the animation. My biggest critique was the video used on the tv screens... it was pretty flashy and drew a bit of attention away from the rest of the animation. But other than that, it looked great. I've used the Populate characters a couple of times and I agree that their motions are not very natural. I wish there was more control over what they do... how fast they walk, which idle animation they use, etc. There is a rudimentary "ramp" capability built into the flow path, but they cant take a ramp around curves or do stairs. It would be better if they would just stick to the surface like the Civil View vehicles do. Hopefully Autodesk will continue to develop the tool and add more functionality and control. Francisco Penaloza
Hey Chad, nice to see you around, good animation. Regarding the zombies yes they are a live!!!!! Here at the office we have both, Autodesk and AXYZ both of them make crazy things all the time, that's why we only use them when strictly necessary, and when so, they are a separated layer, so it can be erased at the last moment if they look like eating brains or something. (Some of then they really look like) There is not way to control animation per individual and honestly I don't know who made those animation, people just do not move like that. Need less to say walking slices from Autodesk are way more natural than the ones from AXYZ but idle animations are bad in both, also animation on stairs are choppy with AXYZ Sorry buddy no solutions here just letting you know you are not the only one dealing with this,. We click the button regenerate several times until we get something decent to put in the animation or we try to use them plain white semi transparent or cartoon edge, that way they kind of blur with each other. Cheers.
