Krisztian Gulyas
I was reading about it, and I have tried it several times and all I know that's it's slooow. I know it's really accurate, but when would use it? When to use it as primary or secondary, and which to use beside it? If I use it as primary, what to use for secondary bounces? I used IR as primary and light cache as secondary almost every time (mostly for interiors). I use Max and VRay 2.4 Thank you!
Guest dialog
VRay 3.0 is just around the corner and they have really sped up the brute force render method.
Francisco Penaloza
IMO you need to learn the tools that you have access then decide what's work for your style or workflow, if you decided on VRay it was because you know that it is primarily Fast, can handle large memory scenes and is flexible, and many other qualities. or maybe you walked in to a company that use VRay already so be it VRay has many ways to handle Global illumination, what to use will depend of you and your scene, now there is a big tendency that maybe 90% of the time Irrandiance map and Lightcache combo will do the work just fine or even great, but also there is some times that this is no the magic formula. Brute force is the real deal, it is precise but it come with a price, time. When to use? well if you have time and you need maximum precision , brute force is the way to go. IF you are doing animation and do not have time to pre save irradiance passes or lightcache, well brute force is the way to go. Having said all this, it is also true that you can optimize brute force to be a lot faster, more than you think, but this again require craft in your tool so again keep learning and trying is the only way that you'll find the solution that fit your needs. I use all of them and combine all of them depending of the situation.
