Hey guys. So I am currently enrolled in a 3ds Max class at Boston Architectural College. Just going to post up some of my progress on here to get some feedbacka nd ways that I can better my skills. Also I figure I am going to run into a complication at some point so I can put up my questions here and hopefully get some answers.

In the class we have been working on creating the Barcelona Pavilion. Right now we were to just create 3d model and all of the architectural components. Haven't learned how to do materials or lighting yet. So this is just a model of the pavilion using different the different geometry tools.

So far so good Nicolas....

Check out this link: http://www.archdaily.com/109135/ad-classics-barcelona-pavilion-mies-van-der-rohe/

In this link you can see the windows in the smaller building, the windows that you are showing as wall right now. For placement, just think that the wall is divided into three tiles and it appears that the window splits the upper most tile.

You can also right click on the the word [Realistic] in your viewport and change it to shaded is the dark shadows are bothering you.

View 2.jpgDid some more work on my Barcellona pavilion model this week. Started to learn how to add in lighting and to play with cameras to start rendering the model. Cameras are a little tricky for placement but simple.

Only problem that I ran into this week was I put all of my cameras on a layer and then turned the layer off, but when I turned back on the layers the cameras didn't show up until I tried making a new camera. Any one have an explanation for this?

I think these views came out good though. Can't wait to learn to add materials to the model so it starts to come to life.

Super helpful, Chris...

I think the images are shaping up. You will likely find them to be dark when you add our materials and Glass, but for now I think they look well balanced. Nice Job.

Your issue with the Camera is likely that you hit Shift+C which is the hide camera by category hot key. Drawing a new one will un-hide them or just hitting Shift+C a second time.

Materials 2.jpg

Learned how to add in materials and play with the different mapping.

I put in all of the materials this week and started playing with the lighting a bit more in order to make the lights more realistic.

Played with the lighting between the two translucent glass walls.

What do you guys think of the materials I used?

Anyway I can better the materials or way that I can improve my light?

Final View 3.jpg

Learned how to import the renderings of my model into photoshop to start to edit the views.

Played with them quite a bit and I'm happy the way they turned out. Kinda hard at first to get used to playing with the levels, and curves and saturation filter but i get the hang of it after a while.

Any tips on how to improve my final edits?

Good work!

Have you considered adding more amenities/furniture?

I feel that the roof lacks detail comparing it to the other surfaces in the scene, but I do like the dramatic reflections that you are getting from it as it is in these lighting conditions.
