jonathanwiederin
Hi guys it seems to me that i`m stuck and can`t increase my render skills at the moment. if you could give me some advice or ideas on how i can improve my skills i would be very thankfull. What i think would be important: increasing level of detail: learning how to light better some pictures have not enough contrast working with hdri? would that increase level of realsim? renderingdesigner
Hi, try to increase reflections in all objects (all materials shoud be reflective in differente amounts), ie, wood should cast some blurring reflections. Try to increase surface contrast usinng or reinforcing the occlusion pass. Try some photoshop filters and post treatment. Regards

Scott Schroeder
Look at your image in grayscale, then take a look at the histogram. That tells you all you need to know as to why there is no contrast in your render. Your entire image pretty much lives in the middle of the histogram and consists of middle ranges. You have to work on getting your color balancing choices better before you can think to create good images. You can learn all the lighting, texturing, materials, hdri, finding Jesus, etc and you'll still have washed out images if you are using gray on gray on gray on gray on gray color choices. I suggest picking up a copy of this book. Start with the basics, then apply that to rendering.
M V
Think about lighting, like you would for a real photography shoot. Here is a great article. http://www.popphoto.com/how-to/2013/03/how-to-mix-light-sources-to-warm-interior-photo

jonathanwiederin
Hey guys, if somebody is interested in my progress, i think i was able to improve my skills a little, i have been working on better texture and render settings For example understanding the specular layer in vray a little bit better. I found 2 realy helpfull free tutorials which are probably the best that i have found for vray for c4d. But sure you can use them for vray for max too. Here are the links: http://vimeo.com/50510866 http://vimeo.com/50507558 The rendering i`m posting is not perfect (plug socket material error etc.), i`m thankful for any critics
