scostumatu
Hi all I have this problem on almost every job that as im working on a scene, the more i work on it and import my previous 3D models (ie furniture/accessories etc) - the more unresponsive it becomes after each render. After each render, 3DS becomes unresponsive for around 20-30 seconds - im not sure if its due to the imported models or that it has taken a toll on the number of maps used in each scene... doesnt happen on all the jobs, but most of them without any discrepancy between high and low poly scenes.... anyone experiencing this or know a solution to this? Thanks
RyderSK
Max version/latest SP ? I am pretty sure I've read something along following line "Max became slow after subsequent saves" or something like that in release notes of some ServicePack. Try updating to latest ServicePack to see if that helps, if you're already on latest Service Pack of 3dsMax, try updating Vray to latest version you own (2.4.04 I think?) If you're already there..well, I am not sure

RyderSK
Well cluttering the scene does slow down the scene but not to point of freezing/unresponsivness. Since you experience those, it's definitely not how it should behaves. Although, quite few things could cause it. I had that in 2013 and early Vray2, but that was bug long fixed. The UI had always frozen after I stopped rendering and it would even flicker afterwards.
Tommy L
Sounds like a graphics card driver issue. Try switching to Open GL (assuming you are using Nitrous) and/or disable the progressive quality viewport rendering and see if it solves the problem. If it does, update (or roll back) your driver and see if Nitrous behaves properly.
Nic H
do you have progressive ticked in your tools? im not in front of max at the moment but i reckon thats your problem
RyderSK
Progressive display in view, that was it ! But it only happened in first version of 2013 and was patched by first service pack. I've never had that problem ever since, so it's quite odd. I remember it being pretty irelevant of scene size also.
Nic H
Yep but we use 2012 (still :-( ) and vray 2.4 and it still happens. You can turn it off permanently in your workspace. Its not strictly scene size dependent but does get worse with giant files (which of course we don't like)
