Using perspective match when placing existing building in - advice needed

I have to place an existing model into a scene that has a background image which needs to be perspective matched into. It one thing setting up perspective match and building within, but I am having trouble setting up the scene when placing a building in. When I place the building in and then use perspective match, the building flies off the screen. I was thinking of using perspective match and building a simple box that has the dimensions of the building and then aligning the building to the box. Is this a possible solution or is there something I am missing?

Another thing that makes it tough is that I use a vray camera, not the standard free camera.

I've had trouble while using all 3 vanishing line sets. Try using just using 2. Also try using really long edges to match the vanishing lines instead of short ones.

The building will definitely start in a position that is no where near the start point, but that is what the camera adjustment parameters are for.

Lastly, just align and match the settings of your standard cam, but use the FOV value for better accuracy.

You can use a Vray camera and perspective match. Just start in the vray camera view, and run perspective match. The key is you can't use a targeted camera, so turn the target of the vray camera off. You can always just stick with the standard free camera and use Vray Exposure in the environment rollout.

Perspective match seemingly works around world 0, so sometimes it is best to just start with your background and the grid. When you get close, use the camera adjustments to slide your scene into view.

Hopefully 2015 gets some tweaks to this tool. It's good but it has a lot of quirkyness to it. I'd like to see a reset button for the perspective lines. Sometimes I mess them up and getting them back to normal is a pain in the ass.
