LaBelette
in your opinion, what would create the least problems to insert a ship model on an ocean or into ice (breaking) situation? I need a reflection ground and a bump map. I tried using a camera map modifier at the moment but didnt find it so easy to use (I overcame problems with viewport, with darkness, etc..that are now solved). How would you spontaneously do that? I know some people prefer also compositing afterwards in photoshop.. thanks for your comments
Scott Schroeder
I'd do 3 renders. Your base render of the ship, the shadow, and the water. I would use a plane where the water would be to catch reflections of the ship. For ease of use, I'd just use a perfect mirror material and do the reflection adjustments in Photoshop. I'd do the same for the ice. Just create a plane for the ice, it doesn't have to be perfect, and set that to be a matte material that gets the shadow of the ship. Again, I'd do all of the fine tuning in Photoshop. To get everything as a perfect "out of the box" render will take far more time than putting the elements together in Photoshop. LaBelette
Hi Scott, yep, it makes sense to me, I thought about it actually but I am not so fit with photoshop. in max, I wonder if matte shadow material would be better than camera map in that case
