both 32 bit and 64 bit windows on a Mac

Recommended Posts

Hi

does anyone know how to install both 32 bit AND 64 bit windows 7 on a bootcamped Mac ?

Bootcamp only lets you create one partition for windows - and after windows is installed, (for example the 32 bit version first) it doesn't seem possible to divide the existing windows partition to install another version of windows.

any ideas ?

cheers

Should be easy to do if you skip Bootcamp and install Windows like you would on a normal PC. I can't remember the exact process but you can Google it. Bootcamp is just a way to make it easier, and is not the only way to do it.

Do you really need Windows 7 32 and 64? Windows 7 Ultimate has an option for XP Mode. XP Mode runs Windows XP inside of Windows 7 and I believe it might be a 32 bit version of XP. If you could use XP then you would only need 1 install of Windows.

The other option is to run Parallels or Fusion, and simply run Windows inside of OSx.

Travis is correct, Bootcamp is only set of drivers, it's not needed to install windows directly (in "most" cases, sometimes you need to tweak booting in bios). We have Retina macbook pro and had other macbook pro before and we just installed Windows directly instead of MacOS at all.

All the rest advice is sound too, it's odd request because 64---)32 compatibility is working great in Windows (or any OS)
