Chris MacDonald
I came into work this morning to a totally unexpected email, from a totally unexpected source. Autodesk Uservoice. They plan on implementing proper quad chamfers! I shall take back (almost) all of my Autodesk douchebaggery, for the time being so celebrate this little victory. Two other things that are "under review" are the "viewport tearoff" and "overhaul backburner". Probably too early for this, but still...
Josef Wienerroither
Several uservoice entries transitioned to "under review" over the last couple of days. ( like better Xrefs and even Fluids ). But better to wait until you see those features announced or implemented than to become premature over-happy ... "under review" might as well just lead to " too hard to implement for the one student developer left ;-)"
Chris MacDonald
This one is not tagged as "under review", it's tagged as "planned". Though I do of course understand your pessimism when it comes to AD; let's surely give them the benefit of the doubt and give them this one opportunity to come good? Of course, i know i was a bit unfair ;-) I 'm generally not that pessimistic currently for 3ds Max. And if the Quad Chamfer went to "planned" it'S indeed a sign of things to really expect... Let's hope for the other things too - sooner or later (better sooner )
Nic H
autodesk are really on the ball. 2015 is going to be a really great release as they now have nested layers! amazing
Chris MacDonald
Have they had a change of management or something? It's so unlike them to actually implement things that we ask for, let alone let us know they are going to do it.
Josef Wienerroither
Ediie Perlberg took over as Senior Product Manager. Tom Hudson has joined Max development again ( one of the inventor of 3DS DOS and early Max versions). Decision has been made to axe Softimage. Number of 3ds Max staff is/was increased etc... etc... . There was a major public outcry some months ago how AD treads it's flagship 3d product ( which IS 3ds Max from the install base) and how they let fall Max 's development behind Maya's, which really got some things moving again as it seems... Let's hope that that momentum keeps on pushing

Justin Hunt
Backburner also got a "Under Review", all I hope is that they actually review it and ultimately improve it.

I'm sure they'll make changes. For one, they'll call it Backburner 2015 and it will be a required install thus sending us all back to square one when it comes to trying to figure out why your job won't net render. Hate to be pessimistic but I just spent a month trouble shooting backburner errors which seem to be related to an update to Autodesk Infocenter. Ive had a couple of mis-fires starting Max due to a Runtime error related to Infocenter.
Matt McDonald
Tell me about it! My super sophisticated solution is to change the name of "WSCommCtr4.exe" to "noWSCommCtr4.exe" I haven't had an error in two weeks and machines which threw the error every render are now rock solid. Did you change that on the nodes? Or just in the workstation with the max installation?
Matt McDonald
nodes too. from what I can tell, no matter how you fire up max, either by double clicking or via net render, it starts the infocenter. Then when it is time to shut down, infocenter doesn't shut down and max is no longer able to launch...or maybe its maxadapter.adp.exe can't launch and it will subsequently not fire up max. Either way the end result is the same. I've been changing in manually just because it makes me feel better but our IT team said they can replace it globally via a login batch process.
