heni30
I've got this virus that spews all these ads onto my online screen. Some are shaky banners telling you you have a virus and some are ad pop-ups. I ran full scans with Ad-aware and Malware-bytes and it still persists; it's like they're not seeing it. I know I can pay some tech to fix it but I'd rather know how to do it myself AND save some $$$.
Tommy L
I'd recommend either a commercial solution (I think Ad-aware and Malware-bytes are free right?), I use Kaspersky which has kept me safe, or a re-install of OS.
heni30
Yeah, I think it's time for a re-install. I think I'll go the Kaspersky route. A friend of mine is an onsite AVID service guy - he says 6 months is a good re-install interval to get rid of all the crap that tends to slow machines down. (in an ideal world) I think things can still slip through - even with a paid version. I'd like to know what to do if that happens.
Tommy L
Ive gone periods of a few years without having re-installed. Since getting Kaspersky 3 years ago I have had no issues. I think an issue prompted the purchase.
Ismael
That one uses a download from malwarebytes after a Safe Boot with Networking to address the issue before it gets to execute itself. These things are a real pain for sure!

Tom, which version of Kaspersky do you use? - PURE 3.0 Total Security - Internet Security - Anti-Virus

heni30
I did go with Kasperky. They have great support - both phone and live chat and a forum. It turns out it was related to my browser - Firefox. They instructed me to do a "reset" and that solved my problems. It's probably good to have at least 2 browsers. I lost my bookmarks but I just copied them back from Chrome which had been copied from Firefox.
