XP SP2 and network rendering

Hi all,

Since I installed the XP service pack 2, the max6 manager can only be found a few minutes, after which it cannot be reached. As a result, our whole render farm is out. Has anyone had the same problem? How did you solve it?

As far as I know, all firewalls are now disabled. I also checked this option when a messagebox poud when starting the server, manager and monitor for the first time after inspattling the SP2.

This from the Discreet website:

Although Discreet Testing and Product Support have not identified any specific problems to date, in some cases 3ds max 6 may not function as expected under Windows XP Service Pack 2. Therefore, Discreet recommends that 3ds max 6 be run under Windows XP SP1.

NOTE: Discreet has identified major issues with the functionality of 3ds max 5 and older on Windows XP SP2, and support advises all clients to not install this service pack due to software stability problems that will occur.

SP2 has major issues with MANY softwares. I'd uninstall and wait about 6-12 months until M$ figures out how to fix their SP or until all the software manufacturers come up with patches to work with SP2.

Hi all,

To good to be true, but I've solved the issue... Although selecting NO firewall (windows asked this when running the manager and the server!) AND afterwards setting NO firewall at all, I figured out that windows had left the firewall running... Could one believe this???

Eventually, unchecking two simple checkboxes changed hell to heaven ,-))

If you've installed SP2, you might as well Include 3DSMAX, Backburner Manager, Server and Monitor in the exceptions list in the Exceptions tab of the Firewall option

of your connection.

i.e...

Network Connections--->Local Area Connection(Or whatever it is you use to connect your LAN/WAN---->Properties--->Advanced-->Windows Firewall "Settings"-->

Exceptions-->Add Program...
