daltonwatts
Hello everybody, I've been searching high and low for a mouse to replace my very old Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical. The only thing i don't like on this mouse is the somewhat cheap click it has (although not as cheap as other mouses i've tried). The middle mouse button is smooth as i like it since i abuse it for orbiting and panning around 3ds max. I already tried: Razer Deathadder -nice soft clicks but the scroll wheel click is ridiculously stiff and hard to press. Microsoft Comfort Mouse 6000 - nice shape and smooth clicking of the scroll wheel but the clicks seem the same as the wheel mouse optical. Logitech MX Wireless Performance Mouse - great shape but the scroll wheel click is hard to press. Logitech G600 MMO Gaming Mouse - great build quality but suffers the same problem of the others - the scroll wheel click is too hard. This has in my opinion the hardest of all. SteelSeries World of Warcraft Cataclysm Gaming Mouse - again middle mouse button hard to click. So, i keep coming back to the wheel mouse optical. Can anyone recommend a mouse with omron soft click switches that ALSO has a soft click middle mouse button? I'm thinking of the Steelseries Kana V2 right now. numerobis
I use a Logitech G700s http://gaming.logitech.com/en-us/product/g700s-rechargable-wireless-gaming-mouse I didn't want a wireless mouse and tried the G500s first, but the laser made a very annoying noise so i exchanged it with a G700s which is quiet (got it directly from logitech with a 35% discount coupon) I use it with the cable plugged in and without the batteries (and battery cover ) because i don't like heavy mice. The cable is a bit stiff but since it has a normal micro USB connector i will look for a nice flexible USB cable to replace it. Concerning the middle button i can say that, since logitech mice have the additional right and left click on the wheel i'm using the right click in addition to the top one for the middle mouse click. Works good for me.
benjaminbogaert
If you want a real mouse M.M.O R.A.T I use this myself and its wonderfull! Cheaper then razer and durable materials. Razer used to be awesome now its just overpriced junk. http://www.cyborggaming.com/prod/mmo.htm I have the white one! Honestly Do it.

Oldest must be 3yo now (got it 1st months it was out), with no issues. @ work (arch firm) our IT uses Logitech MX518 and newer G400s mice. All do a decent work. numerobis
lol... I am using 2x g700 @ home with middle click mapped in the wheel left/right scroll as well =) ...to be more correct, i used to have the F3 key mapped on the middle mouse button and this is now on the right scroll button. The normal middle mouse function for orbit/pan is stil on the 'down' button. Edited March 31, 2014 by numerobis
beestee
I am currently using a Logitech G602. I don't really like/use the side buttons on it, but everything else works great for me. I had a RAT7 before and it was a great mouse as well with some excellent customization options for hand fitment.
branskyj
That is so weird- I was in EXACTLY the same situation as the OP some 6-7 months ago. I had the chance to try the Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical at work and it is a really really great mouse. To this date I have not found another mouse with softer middle mouse button (the wheel click that is) and that's really handy in 3DS Max for panning etc. But I also really missed forward and back buttons and disliked a little the cheap looks. I then bought Steelseries Kana V2 (the white one) and currently have one at home and one at work. The middle mouse button is definitely not as soft as the one on Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical but it's better than many, many other I tried in 3-4 stores. Ergonomics are great, it's ambidextrous, not as big as the Sensei which I also tried but found a bit more slippery, doesn't feel cheap even dough it's made out of plastic, comes with a button on top that sets different DPIs (really helpful when it comes to intricate 3D modelling and selections). I do know though that Steelseries have made a replica of Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical ( just Google "steelseries Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical") but apparently it's easier to find a Unicorn than buy one of these ( they sell them on EBay but you have to import from some foreign countries)... Like I said I tried many vendors and models in several stores- every time I was baffled as to who in their right mind would produce such stiff middle mouse buttons when they are heavily used by both gamers and productivity users. Even Microsoft couldn't reproduce the softness of Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical again in their future products. Oh well, the Steel Series Kana v2 Black just went on sale here in UK for 19.98 GBP on e-buyer (with free delivery). I might get one for my mother. I wish you good luck in your search for perfection, mate Trust me- your hand deserves it.
daltonwatts
Thank you all for your input! I think i made my decision towards trying the Kana V2 by stumbling in one of your posts here in CGArchitect Julian Don't quite remember if you had the same problem as i have but, there you go, you did! I even tried the ninja mouse mod but it doesn't work on the kind of switches they put on the Microsoft wheel mouse optical. Don't know if they've put the same switches on the Microsoft Comfort Mouse 6000 but i'll try to find out. It's the most annoying thing these infamous hard to press middle mouse buttons (MMB). It blows my mind how can these be produced over the softer ones... It's really ridiculous! Not to mention how wide they are. On the G600 particularly, Logitech has managed to completely ruin an otherwise PERFECT mouse by placing the hardest MMB i have EVER tried! BTW, Deathadder 2013 has the nicest left and right clicks. I guess i'll keep my quest Thanks! I'll update the thread as soon as i find one that fits the bill.
