larsmosnes
Hi. Im using both Civil 3d and 3ds Max at work. And wondering if i should invest in a 3Dconnexion SpacePilot PRO. Anyone here used or using this? Pro's and Cons maybe? Cheers!
Zdravko Barisic
Suggest to invest in some entry model and see if it fits for you. The decision is complete on personal expirience, egz.> I sold my own, and switched back to mouse+keyboard.
RyderSK
I occasionally get some driver problem with it, and it was bit problematic for me to set-up with Win8/Max2014, but it went fine later. Regarding device, well, it's amazing, what can I tell. The time you will shave-off moving around your scene, you will make up with even more orbiting, because it's so damn enjoyable. I can only suggest, to me it's great product. If it seems expensive to you (it quite is, I won ours), get it through a student discount (50perc. off). Dimitris Tolios
I agree on getting an entry level model to try 1st, unless you are comfortable getting a used one you can re-sell at a small loss if you don't like it, or you have access to the promotional offers (student discounts etc). I have tried the basic navigator it shortly after it came out/or more precisely when I found out about it cause it was acquired by logitech (roughly 2004?) and although I loved the concept I wasn't that kin using it for anything but fooling around. Later on, I had access to pro models through offices I've worked in, but again I would not get to use it, as the # of keys on it were too few for me to get flexibility out of more than I did with keyboard shortcuts already...then again, some colleagues were pretty happy using them all the time. So, I would say it is highly recommended to give it some time, but don't worry if you don't end up liking it. Not all of us do.
Fr3Drick Law Olmstead
I've been using the Space Navigator for quite some time and I like it a lot. It does take some getting used to and it responds better in some apps than it does in others. I really like the way it works in Max, Maya, and Mudbox but don't like it quite as much in AutoCAD, it feels a bit choppy. It may just be because I don't use AutoCAD quite as much so I never invested the same time to calibrate and get used to it the same way as I did in the other apps. Instead of trying a Space Navigator and then upgrading in case you like it I would try and find somebody who already uses one and give it a test drive. Or find a reseller with a demo location http://www.3dconnexion.com/buy/locate-a-reseller.html Also the fact that the Space Navigator only has two programmable buttons compared to the 21 that the Space Mouse Pro has makes it a lot less efficient. I totally agree with Juraj when he says that using a 3d mouse is very enjoyable and yes you will spend a fair amount of orbiting just because it's fun.
