Matt McDonald
I've never made normal maps using 3ds max before so I thought I would give it a try. I've created my low poly object (a plane) and my high poly object (a plane with some spheres through it). I select my low poly object and go to render to texture. I choose projection map and select the high poly object. Select normal map as output and the rendered image looks to be a very tightly cropped version of the entire object (see attachments). Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I am doing wrong?
jasonstewart
Looks like you plane is not UV mapped. It will bake to whatever uv mapping is on the plane, maybe you have it set to real world units vs. being mapped from 0-1. Add a simple uvw planar map on the plane and then add your projection. Matt McDonald
Beautiful! Thank you. I watched two different tutorials and neither mentioned that part.
jasonstewart
Yea, they probably assume that you don't have real world units set as default when you create a object.
