Tommy L
I have a masked object I would like to trace as a spline in max. Its a complex shape (think like a country with jagged coastline) that would be a tricky one to trace, it there a reasonably automated way of doing this? Maybe via Illustrator? Im an illustrator klutz.
Corey Beaulieu
I'm not running through it on my machine, but I am sure you can; >Make a selections by CTRL+Left Click >Right Click to get the floater menu and select Make Work Path >Export Paths to Illustrator >Open Paths in Illustrator >Export as DWG That should give you a file for MAX. A heavy one, but something you can make a spline off of and maybe use Normalize Spline to clean up.

Justin Hunt
you can auto trace in Illustrator or CorelDraw which can produce some pretty good results, although you may loose detail in some instances.
Stephen Thomas
If you want to minimise vertices when importing splines into max from Illustrator save as Illustrator v8 and import as .ai file. This will give you the original vertices with bezier handles rather than max interpolating the curve with loads of points.
Corey Beaulieu
If that trick works, you will have saved me a lot of time. That's awesome. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
