ericgardiner
I'm looking around at different game engines. I've seen a plugin for unity that enables the use of IES light profiles and unreal engine 4 looks like it supports them too. I haven't seen anything about using them in cryengine. For the work that I do it's important that I use specific IES files, so I'm looking for the best solution for this. Currently I've just been baking lightmaps in max and vray and importing them into unity, but would like to be able to use them realtime also. Anybody know if cryengine supports them or have an opinion on my best option? Thanks!
RyderSK
No, not at the moment. Is it gonna be there in licencees's 3.6 build around the corner ? Doubtfully... they're just ****ing slow, the development is like big zero compared to UE4 sadly... :- (
ericgardiner
That's unfortunate. Cryengines new subscription fee looks awesome, however without being able to use IES lights our clients are not interested as the projects revolve around showing specific light distribution. Would UE4 be the obvious choice for this? Unity 5's integration with enlighten looks awesome, but I have yet to see anything about IES support and I am hesitant to rely on a plugin for it. philippelamoureux
I don't know about unity but in UE4 it's just plain easy to handle IES files. You simply drag and drop the file in the box (in the light's details panel) and then you can ajust the intensity!!! Working in real time so fun, instant results!
