danielbull Posted May 14, 2014 Share Posted May 14, 2014 My textures appear grainy in my Vray renders. (see image) I'm quite new to VRay. I'm using 3D max. I've been looking on the net and tweaking my renders for days now but I keep getting grainy textures. I'm using irradiance map set to very high and light cache as secondary. From internet suggestions i've changed things like hsph.sub from 50-40, light cache subsdive to 1000, texture subdiv from 16 to 24 but still get grainy textures. As its quite an interior dark scene, most light is from self illuminating objects using vray light maps apart from the top which has vray lights pointing inwards to create reflects on the sign with low intensity. Morne Erasmus Posted May 14, 2014 Share Posted May 14, 2014 Which version of vray is this? For the vraylightmtl, did you tick ON "Direct Illumination"? If you did, then untick that. This produces grain and you have to push settings up to get rid of it. Depending on which workflow you're following, 16-24 subdivs for materials may be too low. The lower your glossy value, the higher your subdivs should be. Your vraylight subdivs you can also push up. Add the various render elements to help you determine from where the noise is coming from. Add these render elements: VRayGlobalIllumination VRayReflection VRayRawReflection VRayLighting Whichever one is noisy, push the subdivs up for that. So for example if VRayReflection is noisy then push up your materials subdivs. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Francisco Penaloza Posted May 14, 2014 Share Posted May 14, 2014 When you have those small shinny sparkles or "noise" they are because samples in your materials or a light going through a glossy glass material. If you have big blobs Noise or dark spots, those are created by GI or low samples in shadows. To fix GI you adjust number of GI samples or interpolation. To fix materials noise you need to work in the samples of the materials in combination with your DMC, if you have not moved any other value of V Ray you should be using Adaptive DMC of 1-4 in the antialising window, this may be a little low but this depend of your materials samples too so take a read to the link below to understand how the whole sistem work. http://www.cggallery.com/tutorials/dmc_calculator/ Self illuminated materials should be used mostly to create accent lights or to have visible lights effect, to really illuminate your scene you should use V Ray lights. I did as suggested, raised the sub div for materials a considerable amount and the adaptive dmc image samples min and max div. Everything is looking a lot better now, thanks for the help.
