What graphics card

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Getting a few new workstations this week, just wondering what graphics card to get.

In the current workstations we have quadro k4000's the old quadrophonic 4000 which fine, however was wondering what the GeForce 780ti is like?

I know most of the pro's and cons of GeForce vs quadro, however never had any practical usage of a GeForce.

Will mainly be working in max, mental ray, a bit of I ray and pshop.

Cheers all.

Even if there will be a notable advantage going GK110 (780 series & Titan) over GK104 (760/770), it will probably be "maxed out" with a basic 780. There is no real reason to go through the extra cost and getting a 780Ti or Titan if all you need is viewport acceleration.

4GB versions of 760/770 cards are also not a very wise expense if all you need is viewport acceleration. Just get the 2GB.

The 4GB will be used only with extreme texture sizes (not really impacting performance in 3D modeling) and progressive GPGPU renderings.

  • 2 weeks later...

If sensibility is of concern, and no GPGPU is involved (Vray RT GPU, Octane etc), then I would not even bother with a 4GB 760...

A 760 2GB should do just fine.

The K4000 has its merits, most of which are simply not explored fully with Nitrous & 3DS Max (D3D).

It is not about VRam.

Hey quick reply - Nice one :)

Well actually I should say, this would be using V-Ray RT for previewing the texturing and lighting process...

Yes, to using Nitrous as the default driver for max viewport.

The materials and models can be quite large though.

Cheers for your advice Dimitris :)
