Amen
Or does someone have experience with it already? How is it stability wise?
paneli
Or does someone have experience with it already? How is it stability wise? I'm still waiting for iToo to release it plugins for 2015. Then I'll try. I bet 90% are like me. Waiting for a few plugins to gain support.
RyderSK
I believe until all plugins are ready and stable we might as well just go directly for 2016 with backwards compatibility :- D
TomasEsperanza
Yup, waiting for plugins - so true. I'm still on 2013. ' Thought I'd skip 2014 and go to 2015. I'm curious about this backwards compatibility with 2016 comment, what's the story?
Bruce Hart
That comment refers to the fact that 2013 plugins will work with 2014. 2015 plugins all need recompiles. If I were you I would choose the odd number years releases to skip. I couldn't get out of Max 2013 fast enough. I have found 2014 Max Design a much more pleasant experience. They fixed the broken Isolate function for a start, and the viewport speed is a lot better. I have played with 2015 a little, but it does not excite me that much. We already had scripts/plugins for Quad Chamfer and snapping objects to a surface
TomasEsperanza
Right - 2014 it is then, until 2016 is out, as 2015 isn't a significant improvement. I read on Max Underground that the new AutoDesk staff won't have had the chance to implement any significant changes with this release, and thus it is hoped 2016 will be a milestone release. Fingers crossed. (Personally, I've found 2013 ok, while I did have grievances with max a couple of of versions ago, it seems more stable nowadays. ) Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
beestee
I'm on 2015 and have used it for a handful of small projects, have not noticed any reason not to use it since I do not have any plugins that I depend upon.
Morne Erasmus
Gave it a quick go few days ago to open and save xrefs that was giving me issues in 2014. Seems much snappier. The new seated populate people are pretty cool also (although they're still useless up close and medium range, it's still pretty cool for what it does)
paneli
About animating population - anyone here uses An(i)ma? Looks pretty cool.
Tim Fairbanks
re 3dsmax 2015... Mentioned in previous posts, it looks like 2015 is a release that many of us will skip. Seems to happen every few years: the release of an under-performing version accompanied by overly optimistic Autodesk marketing hype. My experience with 2015 on two (very fast) workstations with different hardware configs is that display performance is s-l-o-w and the newly re-vamped Scene Explorer is desperately in need of some performance tuning. In the past, these doggy versions of Max never really got fixed with updates/patches... re: An(i)ma... I used An(i)ma a couple years ago, but after several weeks of frustrating technical problems, instability, and corrupt files, the guys in Italy reluctantly refunded my purchase. 3dsmax Populate uses assets with identical filenames, so I believe Autodesk is licensing their models - they seem to share the same DNA. Chris MacDonald
Upgraded a few months back once there was full support from all the plugins we use (VRay, forest pro & railclone). Haven't had any problems. Not a fan of the layer manager, but I never used layers enough to warrant a new one anyway. Nested layers don't work as I thought they might.
