jullemeck
Hi all! I created a vray material for the water, but i wanted to make it look darker than before so I added a dark vray plane 1,5 meters under the waterline and added refraction to the water material. Everything inside the frame became darker, except for a small part in the left down corner. I cant seem to find what the problem is... I used phoenix fd to simulate the water. Any advice? Thanks
Scott Schroeder
Refraction bends light waves, so if your darker plane underneath is the same size as the water plane, you'll see the edges of it. You need to make the bottom plane much bigger to compensate for this. The straw isn't broken in real life.
jullemeck
The vray plane has infinite scale, so that can´t be the problem. Thanks for your answer!
Scott Schroeder
Ha! Missed the vray plane part. Well it's an even easier fix then. Turn your water object's cast shadows off (or set the affect shadows on in the refract slot) and you'll solve the problem.
Francisco Penaloza
yes it may be a shadow problem, also if your water is single plane, be sure you adjust that in your material, by default VRay consider solid geometry. if you make it for single side mesh, and add fog to your water material will give you a better representation of deph in the water. jullemeck
Thank you guys! It worked when I turned the shadows off. Thanks for the tip about the fog! Looking better now!
