Edit poly bug

Hey,

Just wondering if anybody else has experienced this with 3ds max 2014.

In large scenes, when I've got an object with a couple of edit poly modifiers, after saving and re-opening some of the edit poly's have altered geometry. It can be anything from holes being capped that previously werent, or vertices moved, almost at random.

I thought it might just be specific to a corrupt file at first, but now I've had it happen in several of my projects, as has my colleague.

Has anybody else noticed this?

Yep, I have re-modelled the terrain that I was having problems with and have actually found a way to replicate the problem. You can see in the image the original geometry which is nice and smooth, and the corrupt geometry to the side...

If I create an instance of the original it is absolutely fine, but as soon as I either collapse the modifier stack or make unique it corrupts. I really want to find a solution to this as I can't be re-modelling it every time I open the file. Perhaps export it as 3ds and re-import it?

Or trying "save selected", and then merging it again?

Do not use 3DS for export/import, but FBX or even better OBJ instead of 3DS.

There must be some logical reason for this twilight zone. Do you have Revit or ACAD geometry in the scene?

Or some linking beetween the geometry...

Does it happen on brand new meshes? Just for checking?

Are you using sculpting tools on this (push/pull, relax...)? Because if you are that is probably why this is happening. I had the same problem with edit poly modifier when using those tools. Luckily, in my case collapsing the stack didn't corrupt the objects so i just had to make sure i collapse it before closing Max.
