johnmouse1
Hi, I need 3D animated or rigged characters. I have found some ones (AXYZ, Dosch, RPC...) but they are not very nice. Thanks !
beestee
AXYZ newer HD2 Scan360 models are pretty nice IMO...at least on the right track. Rocketbox has some better models...but quite expensive last I checked.
johnmouse1
Thanks Benjamin. Yes, they are nice, but they are still models. I need animated models and AXYZ animated or rigged people are not very good. Rocketbox is very expensive (and faces are not realistic) ! I have found this website : http://www.cg-people.com Did you try it ? It seems nice. Thanks a lot !
mbousquet
Have you tried TurboSquid? http://www.turbosquid.com
michaeljames1
Try this : http://www.cg-people.com Characters are nice and they are rigged and have animations.

RyderSK
and they also look like monsters Some were so grotesque it induced some laughs, while others were quite top nightmare stuff. I haven't seen a single one done nicely in commercial "ready-to-drop" package. Of course, there is Infinity-Realities type of stuff which once reworked by world-class VFX houses look utmost amazing but that's outside of our reach for now. And that's maybe good. Just imagine those few high-end models would end up on market they would stare at us from everywhere.
johnmouse1
Hi, Thanks for your answers. So...what is the solution ? Is there a place to find great characters for arch movies ? What do you use ? Shadows ?
RyderSK
For close-up distance ? I am afraid only green-screen people. This probably won't go away in few years at all. At best, CGI people will be usable for mid-distance sooner than later, but surely not now.
johnmouse1
I have tried casual models from cg-people and they seem very good for mid-distance compared with others solutions. For close-up distance, I think I can have a good result if my camera moves quickly. In fact you're true. Today, there is no low-cost solution for very realistic people and it's a pity. Nicolai Bongard
For long range there are some free ones from xoio you could check out.
Chris MacDonald
AXYZ stuff is absolutely fine for medium range shots, but I'd still stick with greenscreen/photoshop people for close ups. The 3D just isn't there yet. I am not entirely convinced that we will ever get stock 3D people that can stand up to close up scrutiny. Obviously there are artists that pour hours and hours into creating a bust, but this is hardly feasible as a business model. The reality is that millions of years of evolution have trained our brains into being able to spot even the most minute details/errors when it comes to people. Might be worth checking out Human Alloy, they have some scanned 3D people. One or two of them look like they need a bar of soap and a wash though. RyderSK
Maybe not any soon, and in currently popular discount type shops (EV, DC,etc..), but it will become feasible with less effort to those willing to put that additional work. Human Alloy, seems really strange. Doesn't look like a result of DSLR array and proper merge/cleanup. Something grotesquely odd about the proportions and all. Francisco Penaloza
http://www.3dscanstore.com/ (Warning nudity) This is as good as you can get 3d scanning people, but these models are not designed for Arch Viz, you could get one, rig it, dress it and pose it, but by the time you finish all this plus a decent shader and lighting, your whole Arch Viz budget will be gone. That's is our problem too, our budget can't support this type of quality. Make Glum look a live take great modelers, incredible shaders, and awesome lighting, and a very complex comp work, and that can't be payed by $500 renders fee AXYZ are good for medium to far shot, or if you use them and flat color people or ghosted people, we know they are fake, so make them look fake, don't try to trick the brain. it create a more pleasant view than trying to make them look a live, even more in animations. IF you want to go beyond, Green screen people is the only solution, if you decide that is the solution for you, then adjust your budget properly. I have several client that come to me asking for the next Hobbit, when I explain everything involved on it, then they realize that it is not magic, just hard labor and all that has a price tag. Do not promise what can't be delivered and do not work for free.

BTW what happened to that fancy stylish 3D people that someone else was promoting?? can't remember the name. an other one who bite the dust? hanselmoniz
3d people will take a long time to come good in closeup, even for instance big blockbuster movies do not use very realistic animated closeup 3d people. I think the closest was the angelina jolie 3d Beowulf. The Clothing used on these characters is not very realistic and does not simulate well when animated. Even the facial expressions are not very convincing. Besides this you would have to render countless pass to get the effect right
RyderSK
I would have to disagree with that bit, Beowulf was intentionally unrealistic and so was Angelina. Fun movie though, anything with vikings go. It's quite old now though. Most people don't know when digital doubles are used now in VFX, which is testament to how well they are done. M V
Why doesn't Archvision reclaim this market with hi res, updated 360 animated 2.5D and 3D billboards? Just seems to make sense to me that this would be the best way around this issue.

Yes I think for Arch Viz this will be way more useful for animations, but I think the problem how much it cost to make those images. Like RPC the idea is great, but since they created the software they have not updated the people, they are all stuck in the 80's. Bigger Arch Viz studios shoot their on green screen people as they need them and it work fine, but nobody is creating these libraries to sell. Hey that can be a new business idea
