GI Distribution

Ok, already been chatting with strat in regards to this, but maybe some others can help me master standard GI. I'm working on an interior space as shown in the images. Included are images of the prepass and the render.

What I need to know is how to create a proper GI solution. Everything I seem to do results in splotchy results.

Frosty,

Can you post your GI settings for this rendering? I wish there were a single right answer to how to get a good solution, but every project is unique. From looking at your prepass, it looks like your Min. samples are too low. Try starting with at least 25. If your min. samples are too low, it can actually slow down the rendering. You may also need to raise the max. samples to get rid of the splotches in the corners. It's best to only change one setting at a time, so you can understand what's making a difference.

If you haven't already, you should read through MV's Radiosity Tutorial. It explains the importance of all the settings better than the manual.

Post more renderings as you go. I'd be happy to look at them.

sorry i couldnt chat more last night only i'd been online all day and was logging off just as you cought me :( i was carving up my pumpkin for a party i was rushing out to.

interiors are always a bugger to render. those splotches look like they're generally at the edges where edges and corners meet. that indicates the max samples are too low.

like jack says, a min of about 25 should suffice, and i'd use a max of around 200, with stotches at about 300+.

post up ur settings m8 and your general lighting rig layout. and your pc spec.

if you want you can email me the model and i can take a look see and post it back with an explanation if you want.
